What to know: Marty Makary is one step closer to becoming the head of the Food and Drug Administration.

On March 13, the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee voted to advance Makary’s nomination to the full Senate. It is likely that he will be approved because he received Democratic support in Thursday’s vote, with Senate committee members voting 14-9 in favor of his nomination.

The Food and Drug Administration is investigating a new outbreak of infections caused by Listeria monocytogenes.

There are 28 confirmed patients in the outbreak, as of March 13. The FDA has not reported where the patients live or how old they are. The agency has not identified a specific source of the pathogen. It has initiated sampling, but has not reported what is being sampled.

What to know: More than 60 people have fallen sick after eating at a kebab shop in a Swiss municipality.

The Office for Consumer Protection (AVS) closed the kebab shop in Möhlin in Aargau as a precautionary measure earlier this month because of reports of gastrointestinal illnesses. The agency has since received more than 60 reports of illness.

Affected Product: Danone US, LLC of Louisville, CO, is recalling 75,654 bottles of two International Delight Coffee Creamer flavors because of spoilage and associated consumer illness complaints.

Affected Product: Shearer’s Foods, LLC, of Massillon, OH, is recalling 15,874 cases of various oyster cracker products because of potential contamination with stainless steel wire fragments.

Affected Product: Stiebs LLC, of Madera, CA, is recalling 25,484 cases of Organic Acai Bowls with berries, bananas, granola and dried coconut because of potential contamination with blue pieces of plastic.

Affected Product: New Age International Inc. of Brooklyn, NY, is recalling all lots of its Daily Veggies brand Enoki Mushroom (200g), a Product of Korea, because they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.
