It’s Friday, August 29, 2025. For the final time this week, let’s take a look at what is happening in the food safety sector.

What to know: Public health officials are investigating a large Salmonella outbreak and have traced it to eggs. A recall has been initiated.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are reporting that 95 people across 14 states have been sickened. The Food and Drug Administration first posted information about the outbreak on April 23, but the cause was not released until Aug. 27.

The CDC has officially confirmed that it is no longer tracking six of eight pathogens that cause foodborne illnesses.

In communication with Food Safety News a spokesperson with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said the agency will only track Salmonella and shiga-toxin producing E. coli (STEC) moving forward.

About 20 residents of six nursing homes in Belgium have fallen ill after being infected with E. coli.

Local media reported five people had died but it was not certain what role E. coli played in their deaths.

Stop & Shop has been ordered to pay $75,000 in fines and adopt stricter food safety safeguards after an Ocean County investigation revealed widespread mislabeling and spoiled meat at several New Jersey stores, officials announced Monday.

Denmark has revealed norovirus caused the most foodborne outbreaks this past year with Salmonella and Campylobacter in joint second.
