FDA Probes Four Foodborne Outbreaks; WHO Evaluates Waterborne Pathogens

Happy Thursday, February 27, 2025. Here’s a roundup of today’s essential food safety stories. Let’s get into the news.

What to know: The Food and Drug Administration continues to investigate four foodborne illness outbreaks, two from Salmonella and two from Listeria monocytogenes.

For an outbreak of Salmonella Newport, the number of patients stands at 29, up two from this past week. The FDA has not reported how old the patients are or where they live. The agency has initiated traceback but has not reported what food is being traced. The FDA first posted the outbreak on Feb. 20.

Only two people reported eating raw milk cheese in the initial stages of an E. coli outbreak investigation that was later traced to such a product. It is unclear whether this was because of poor recall or because people were unaware they had consumed unpasteurized cheese.
