It's Friday, October 3, 2025. Today’s newsletter highlights global food safety issues, from Denmark’s solved Cryptosporidium outbreak to new FDA enforcement measures and a rancher challenge to USDA rules.

A Cryptosporidium outbreak in Denmark has been traced to a type of produce from Italy.

During June and July, the Statens Serum Institut (SSI) registered 11 cases of Cryptosporidium parvum IIzeta.

A year-old case of R-CALF, et al. v. USDA, to stop the use of a tool intended to help control diseased animals, will proceed under a ruling by the U.S. District Court for the District of South Dakota. USDA’s attempt to get the lawsuit thrown out failed.

Digital tools and human expertise have been highlighted by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) as vital when looking at emerging food safety issues.

Foresight takes a medium-to-long-term view and is used in the early identification of emerging food safety issues as part of a move from a reactive to preventive approach.

The Food and Drug Administration uses import alerts to enforce U.S. food safety regulations for food from foreign countries. The agency updates and modifies the alerts as needed.
