What to know: One death and several severe cases of food poisoning have been reported in a French town. Five people have developed hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS).

The FDA is giving consumers one month to comment on a proposed method for ranking chemicals in food.

The new method would help to determine which chemicals the Food and Drug Administration would prioritize for post-market assessment.

More than 100 people have fallen sick in France as part of a Salmonella outbreak linked to eggs.

Outbreak strains were isolated between Aug. 9, 2024, and Jan. 10, 2025. The median age of patients is 23, and 95 live in the Île-de-France region. Twenty-five people were hospitalized.

The Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) has highlighted an urgent need for effective food safety measures to be implemented across the region.

The Caribbean Agricultural Health and Food Safety Agency (CAHFSA) also recently hosted the annual meeting of the Caribbean Task Force on Food Safety.
