Infectious H5N1 avian influenza virus can persist in raw-milk cheeses while they are being made and for up to 120 days of aging, depending on the milk’s acidity (pH) level, according to a report published in Nature Medicine.
Salmonella and Campylobacter infections in England declined in the second quarter of this year compared to the same period in 2024.
Data from the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) shows there were 18,677 confirmed laboratory reports of Campylobacter and 2,342 of Salmonella in Q2 2025.
A member survey has revealed good support for Codex standards, but concerns have been raised again about timeliness.
The Codex Alimentarius, or “Food Code” is a collection of international standards, guidelines and codes of practice adopted by the Codex Alimentarius Commission.
