It’s Friday, September 12, 2025. From Salmonella outbreaks to allergen-related recalls, here’s what you need to know today.

What to know: More than 40 people have been infected with a rare strain of Salmonella in Austria.

The Austrian Agency for Health and Food Safety (AGES) said sick people come from eight federal states and have been infected with Salmonella Kenya since August 2025.

USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service has, after a three-year review, approved the North American Meat Institute (NAMI) petition requesting the deletion of the Moisture Protein Ratio (MPR) reference from the “Jerky” entry in the FSIS Food Standards and Labeling Policy Book.

The latest report on food fraud in Europe has been released and includes suspected cases of adulteration and problems with traceability.

Such fraud can lead to food safety issues. There were 136 reports in July, down from 164 in June 2025 but up from 129 in May.

The issue was discovered through consumer feedback. There have been six reported allergic reactions in connection with Here Comes Truffle and two reported allergic reactions in connection with Vegan is Believin’.
